marie louise hertog

if i had my life over again i'd be wanting to include a hefty amount more dance in it. this is her showcase but on her insta marie louise hertog has a bunch of vids of her just practicing in the studio. as my own body has the finctionality of a bag of spanners these days i find it all rather hypnotic. so hopefully more dance vids in the future!

klara bylund

adressing, again, the shortage of dance on here. i came across klara bylund purely by chance - i can't embed a video as she only does shorts. but what she does is entirely different from any other dance video that's come up on my feed. straight off, she doesn't look like any of the other dancers i usually see - this looks like someone in their kitchen. and indeed, when you see her other videos, her kitchen is her studio. i love that restriction and i love her use of space. i know nothing about her, other than she's living in/from norrkoping and, to my eyes, this is a fairly unremarkable swedish kitchen! she looks bendy and effortless enough to me to suggest at least some dance or movement training. certainly if i tried this it would look very different!

i found it joyous and a wonderful way to brighten the day.  dance in your kitchen!  (and avoid the comments section!)

alexandre mccormack

talking of the body in space - was buying myself some tickets for physical theatre (not since before covid!) when this popped up in my yt feed. when i was young i really liked the physicality of ballet, a fact i foolishly expressed, resulting in 'no son of mine' declarations etc, coupled with caring what other people thought for years after, meant i never engaged with dance as a form (even as i was writing plays which depended implicitly on movement!).

after listening to jojo mayer yesterday on the fundamentality of rhythm, it's nice to remember the same about movement and expression. plus it's good for you! alex mccormack only has a couple of videos on yt, check out his insta channel for more

yoann bourgeois

one of my time vampire habits is trampoline videos. i'd so love to be able to do that but i think these days it would take me about a nanosecond to get a severe musculoskeletal injury! and then there's yoann bourgeois....

clearly tho, he's not just about the trampoline. here's something else, which strikes me how little dance i have on here. i need to address that....

a delicate battle

years ago, when i was wee, i saw rudolf nureyev dancing on the tv, a black and white sequence, just him. i'd never seen anything like it, never seen anyone shaped like him , could move like him. wow, i thought, i wish i could grow up to be that. need less to say in the scotland of those days with a father like mine it was never going to happen. and that was before i realised i was too short and most likely, too unbendy.

i never lost that moment when it came to dancers. it's a bittersweet thing -  i'm still too short, certainly way too unbendy but now i'm too old as well! but when i watch something like the above i get swept up in all the possibility of human movement.

it's a half hour. get a cup of tea, sit down and immerse yourself....
