i've become a bit of an evangelist for the ukelele recently. it's a great entry level instruments, brilliant for kids, isn't as intimidating as a guitar (but you can really improve your technique by 'playing' on the ukelele) and, most importantly, it's a fabulous instrument all on its own. just play one!

ukelele basics

bad habits can accrue really fast and it's best to iron them ut as early as possible. my truly horrible strumming technique was ironed out by watching this and practising really, really slowly. and there's a nice blues progression to play with at the end.
