victoria ford

 

i do a lot of my daily looking at art on instagram and in doing so came across the work of victoria ford. she doesn't have a website, doesn't have images splashed across the net but does have an instagram page via which you can access her etsy shop. i'm not a stranger to linocut but this is breathtaking stuff, despite my normal aversion to representational art, and the care and love that's gone into them, for me, radiates out of all the images.

as, at last, some of the looted stuff we have in out museums, makes its way back to where it came from (a ppost for another day) i wonder again why it is we'd rather look at the work of dead artists, hoarded by those with more money than we can imagine, than look at the work of people actually working today.

thabo motseki

every so often i'll come across an artist that just opens my eyes to a whole new set of perspectives. such is thabo motseki. i'm astonished he isn't better known, especially in these internet days, rather than having to go and live in america or europe.

randall enos

randall enos is better known as a cartoonist but, being that he's from new bedford, it seems inevitable he'd be doing some illustrating of moby dick at some point which he does in the form of the story of mocha dick. these linocuts are absolutely exquisite and absolutely worth a browse

hubert tereszkiewicz

apparently hubert tereszkiewicz works mainly in design and just knocks out linocut portraits on the side. which, if you've ever done linocut, is astonishing. i can safely say no linocut i ever do will match the skill (or patience!) on display here

linocut - reduction

i don't do much linocut any more because my arm's wrecked and when i do i much prefer hand colouring because it's simpler. and it doesn't mess with yout head as much! but this is a lovely wee video about the reduction process as well as the planning, time and commitment it takes to make this sort of thing.

linocut using xcut xpress

been an age since a craft post. so here's this one (note - third of a series). i actually own one of these xcut machine and i love it. note though that the long bed he shows doesn't come as part of the xcut package so you need to order it.

transferring an image to a linocut bloock

i have to stress that this isn't a technique i've ever used but, if the image is transferred (and you don't mind a flipped image) without tearing the paper, it might be worth a try - you need to watch her follow up videos to see here whole process

registering a linocut

there are many ways to register a print so here's one. 'available in my shop'. you could buy one....

irene mackenzie

following on from yesterday's post here's irene mackenzie's frankly beautiful, amaryllis, a hand coloured linocut. this combines my love of botanical illustration, linocut and hand colouring and, should i ever learn how to properly sharpen my tools i'll be practising some of the techniques on show here.

again, precious little detail on her online but, if you like what you see, copies of her prints may be on sale at the highland print studio. or google....
