had a nice wee chat earlier about abolitionism and scottish women in relation to harriet beecher stowe earlier today. she writes about this in sunny memories of foreign lands. as a counterpoint i mentioned that i'd heard that blockade running from scotland during the american civil war was planned from bridge of allan. i'd looked for the address but never tracked down. in the interim this has come out, which is niche, but fascinating!

continuing from yesterday here's another podcast from the same source on bell hooks. full respect to them for, rather than just giving their own opinions, sourcing a bunch of original pieces from bell hooks herself. well worth listening to either as a someone familiar with bell hooks or a total beginner. honest, lovely and filled with respect for humans - she'll be missed.

reading dostoevsky
i'm not the world's biggest dostoevsky fan but i'm in an online book group with a number of people who'd like to change that. i was interested then to have a listen to this. the boys get themselves a little bit tied up towards the end but there's no doubting their enthusiasm. good quality listen.
