record store day

this weekend it's record store day. now i don't mean hmv or any of that type or the shelf in your local tescos etc. no, this is for those wee independent interesting shops that are fast vanishing, the ones from the days before this downloading malarkey, when a happy weekend's couple of hours could be spent browsing the shelves and listening to what was new. call me a luddite but i miss those times.

the closest to me, i think (were i not somewhere between mull and skye doubtless in the rain) is coda records in edinburgh. they have all manner of shenanigans going on. should you be available, avoid amazon, go to the shop. hang out. because you're worth it...

jarvis cocker (6music) is also doing a special show on sunday in honor of this...not sure where our nearest one is now. spillers in cardiff was where i went as a youngster, hmmm memories :)

i was mulling over whether i could justify a trip down you way to look at thorn bikes the other day. not that t would mind - it's all sorts of warm down south as she points out - and was further encouraged by a recent trip by geo to bristol which, aside from too much traffic for his tender scotch ears, he found was all sorts of lovely.

oooh, we're in chesterfield (derbyshire) now. depending on your route may be on your way-certainly worth a stop for a bit of dark peak mtb. let me know if you are heading south, there's always tea and cake here :)

...and yes bristol is lovely, loads to see and do. probably nearly all of your eclectic interests covered!

I'm very lucky to have David's Records nearby in the otherwise somewhat sterile Letchworth Garden City in North Herts.

despite the fact i'll most likely be somewhere lovely, either mull or moidart, on saturday i'm experiencing vague regret i can't get involved with this esp as i've discovered my nearest participant isn't in edinburgh but dundee so, pleasingly, i'll be off there when i get back.

Absolutely. Was wandering round Cob Records in Porthmadog only last week.
