...currently having a wee dram of ptarmigan whisky (from cairngorm) and searching out jane's atwood's
I'd have said this was a boy thing, but look what's happened to Andy Gray.
my (expanding) group of female mountain bikers with whom i'm acquainted would beg to differ but in doing so we would most likely all dissolve into some discussion fo angles and gear ratios and the like and thus confirm a certain set of truths about ourselves (and i shall do just that in the comment after this one!).
andy gray? what.a.tool. staggeringly i believe he has actually fathered daughters. what a joy it must have been for them to see him today trying to get his female co-presenter to stuff his remote down his pants. a public shoeing would ideally be in order (in the old northern european sense of 'to shoe' i.e. the boot is left on the foot rather than removed and hurled at the offending party)
but anyway enough chatter with regard to lesser sports.
so, kate, your knees will love you for a 1x10 gear set up. obviously being of the ss persuasion top end speed isn't so much your thing but the travel up to the great dish of an inner ring is a joy. plus with a bash guard on the front ring i had no worries on bending teeth, something i've done frustratingly often this year.
but all that's before the 160mm of travel. i have no bikes that have this much. coupled with a 2.4 on the front (i didn't take it off because it's got a maxle and i know nothing about them) i felt i could cycle into a wall and it would soak it up.
for me i'd need slighter narrower bars (60cm rather than 70cm), a longer stem to start getting the best out of it but, even so, i had it out tonight (my third outing today believe it or not!), having put some clips on instead of flats and it went like stink. my friend doesn't mind me getting it filthy so i can't wait to clean it up and get it out during the day where i can proper tear it up. if i can get the van fixed i may even take it down to gt! (gypsy glen by the way - if you haven't, you must.) i may attach the camera and post some pics if i can make it work.
hope you're easing back into the new routine. not too big a wee dram mind!
