there's a lot of first world war memorialising going on where i am at the moment which, amongst other things, seems to leave out a lot of lived experience whether it be objectors, restricted workers, the experience of the returning wounded and traumatised (and so far i've heard no mention of the current problem of homelessness etc with our current servicemen). it's a shame as there's an abundance og non-fiction and fictional material dealing iwth this.

i just love sergio toppi and i'm stunned, if not altogether surprised, that his work isn't available more in english. not that it really needs to be because he's just dialled when it comes to narrative, instantly recognisable, sweeping bold designs, brilliant colour work and just great to look at, you can see toppi's influence everywhere. i could fill the rest of the month just with his images.....
