adolfo arenas alonso

of all the images i've seen in the last month these by adolfo arenas alonso are the ones i'm taken with the most. i adore their quirkiness but also, as he's from andalucia where i have close friends from, there's a certain something that speaks to where they're from

miho harano

i wouldn't normally go for images like those of miho hirano but i really like the way she uses blue and the dream like quality of her pictures. beyond that she has nor internet presence so nothing else to tell!

george underwood

i did not know george underwood was a collaborator with david bowie. i just know him from his paintings of women in hats. which are just sublime.

bisa butler

when you read about bisa butler you read about african/brightly coloured fabric. which, to me, just feels a bit racist, a bit misogynistic. what she is, is a textile artist, who describes herself as a storyteller, who breathes life and colour into pictures of long forgotten african americans and in doing so makes her art both contemporary and political, as well as being really accomplished in her craft. that's art for me.

anita magsaysay-ho

again, i really like the use of colour in anita magsaysay-ho's work. it'd be easy to say she's derivative but i think that's to miss that she's of her time and, in her portrayals of working women, really stands out for me.

florencia fernandez alonso

there's maybe a little too much structure for me in some of florencia fernandez alonso's images but i do like her use of colours

piotr jablonski

it's true that maybe some of piotr jablonski's concept work can be a bit mainstream but there's no denying his craft. this image really captured the mood of a difficult week for me.
