huguette caland
i can't imagine why i'm not tripping over images from huguette caland everywhere. it's easy to lose a few hours just dipping a toe into what she's done. sublime

gabriele meyer is a professor of mathematics who likes to crochet hyperbolic forms in her down time. if that's not art i don't know what is!

talon abraxas
browsing through talon abraxas' i', reminded of that phrase from miss jean brodie that 'for those who like that sort of thing that is the sort of thing they like'. so while i may not be taken with some of his iamges i did like this.

arne svenson
if someone was to ask me how photography fitted into the canon of western art i could do worse than direct them to arne svenson. i could look at these all day. interesting contrast/comparison to the previous post on miroslac tichy

miroslav tichy
miroslav tichy - problematic in so many ways but his images are so arresting. you be the judge. that's what art's all about maybe?

it may seem as if antonio palmerini has one subject but even so i can't look past these blurry double exposures (and all the other work he has going on) ....

vivian maier
what can creativity look like when it's outside sales, galleries and academia? like vivian maier that's what. i love the lack of biography for her, i love the fact she most likely wouldn't be happy about the attention she's getting now. and i love that because all it does is focus attention onto the images.

michelangelo di battista
michelangelo di battista works in fashion photography so his work is inevitably infected by that state of mind, i liked this tho. google for more. think michael bay movies and you won't be too far away.

akira kusaka
i'll tell you one thing - doing this blog has definitely pushed me more towards the figurative and illustrative end of the spectrum. so here's akira kusaka who i like for many of the reasons i like shaun tan but also just to remind myself that's there's whole different strands of illustrtation in japan

so, yes, i breathed
and i kind of missed doing all of this. definitely check out that matthew herbert sequence in the actual film. i love the soundtrack but the sequence itself is beautiful and transformative.
so, a kind of a start (again). maybe there'll be a bit less text - i don't want to just get caught up in a mess of superlatives! or maybe i'll get more verbal. who knows. enjoy

and breathe....
and that, for the time being, may well be that. i've got house moves, new jobs and all manner of other upheaval going on so a post a day just isn't feasible any longer! that said i'd only intended to do it for a year so it's surpassed the time i'd anticipated for it!
so thanks for coming along for the ride. doubtless there'll be other posts but maybe just not as frequently! watch this space....

jakub rozalski
there's something about jakub rozalski's game based steampunk realism that makes me feel all is right with the world. visual art can often take itself way too seriously. for me rozalski defines that combination of skill, application, a sense of play and just having a laugh

edie nadelhaft
i'm not normally a fan of hyperrealism even if i can admire the technique. macro-hyperrealism tho - edie nadelhaft blows it out of the water!

nicola samori
nicola samori - neo baroque i think they describe her as. i don't much care for that term. what she does do is play with the classics in such a way as not to seem over artificial but engages the viewer both in her perspective but also the originals she works from

leston japaljarri spencer
this is called warnu jukurrpa (snake dreaming). i have no idea what it symbolizes to leston japaljarri spencer but it's so similar, yet at the same time different, to some of my own drawings i couldn't look past it. if i had this on my wall i'd hypnotize myself!

scott andresen
i don't know how scott andresen made this image but it's no surprise he started off years ago in quilting. his website is worth checking out just to see how he's progressed and developed as an artists. in addition the work is rather good!
