tatiana plakhova
there comes a point when an illustration moves beyond just displaying information and gets into the realm of something else entirely. welcome to the world of tatiana plekhova. dazzling!

rene quillivic
you see these all over the place these days. curly waves, wee boats, i've even done some myself. chances are tho, rene quillivic was doing it first. possibly better known for sculpture these woodcuts are beautiful in their simplicity and grace

hokusai
so yes, every once in a while i like to go old school. this should need no explanation! having a browse the other day and cam across this. even all these centuries later the rightness of it just shines out from the image.

ian miller
and one of the reasons i wanted to draw like i did was very likely ian miller whose green dog trumpet i still have and still have no idea what's really going on. even now - an attack of the pumpkin creatures. whatever ian miller has in head, i'd like some of that!

wire scorpion
more finger punishing in this easy to follow video that isn't a bad starter for making something bug like. worth remembering that once you're dialling in your technique you can add in all manner of beadwork etc to fancy it up. ideal for a rainy afternoon!

margaret macdonald
after harry clarke here's another favourite. or at least one of a pair of favourites, it being wrong not to mention margaret's prodigiously talented sister frances. always worth a look in to the kelvingrove if you're passing. failing that, if it's still in print, check out jude burkhauser's glasgow girls.

harry clarke
for me, discovering harry clarke was like opening a door but i can't help feeling that he's underappreciated out there in that there world of art. you can do your wee bit towards sorting that out....

edward penkov
there's precious little about edward penkov online but what you do get is acres of images and when you got his set of skills, that's not something to grumble about.

akiya kageichi
you could argue that akiya kageichi wears his influences just a bit too obviously on his sleeve. but as i like all those influences i don't care. these are just sumptuous!
