mucha


say what you like about mucha - and they do in a strangely poor article in paris review - but you'd be on thin ice if you were going to argue there weren't some mad skillz on view. i'm not the world's biggest fan of figurative painting but i love these, i love their lighting, their construction and mucha's take no prisoners vision. i remember seeing apotheosis of the slavs years and years ago and just being blown away by it

there's a number of people making things with deconstructed books these days. barbara wildenboer's are my recent favourites. i'm not saying i haven't considered it but cutting up a book makes me uncomfortable for all manner of irrational reasons!

mental health

it's rare to hear an article that bridges the divide between the 'opposite' sides of healthcare, particularly mental health care. check out act four of this episode of this american life - it's both sad, poignant and captures something of the sadness i'm sure is recognisable to anyone involved.
